GTA V rakes in $800 million day-one, surpasses Call of Duty

Grand Theft Auto V has reeled in $800 million in its first 24 hours of release, Take-Two Interactive announced. While GTA V did not cheat its way to the top of the crop, it has made history.

GTA V's release strikes out competitors, and is the highest day-one of any game to date. While Call of Duty: Black Ops II comes in close, with $500 million. Additionally, Grand Theft Auto IV earned $310 million in 24 hours, back in 2008. Rockstar's crystallization of game design ensured publisher Take-Two's own powerball winnings.

GTA V recently released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. And the game boasts an evolution of game mechanics, graphics and storytelling. Although the multiplayer will not be playable until October 1.
